
Case Study: Analysing passive design strategies
The passive design does not require mechanical heating or cooling. Buildings that are passively designed to take advantage of the natural climate to maintain thermal comfort. Incorporating the principles of passive design in the building is significantly improves comfort, reduces or eliminates heating and cooling bills, reduces greenhouse gas emissions from heating, cooling, mechanical ventilation, and lighting.

Sustainability is important due to the effort to maintain earth resources for future generation usage. The organisms such as animals, plants and more can continue to survive. Climatic changes affect how nature behaves and increase the sea level gradually. To prevent more and more such consequences occur, we have to try to maintain the resources, recycle and reduce the usage such as we can use recycled building material in our building and more.

Climatic design can facilitate an increase in the energy efficiency of buildings. The reduction of energy usage help reduces the environmental effect to earth. It is very important due to the long-term usage hence we have to take serious consideration. Maximize cooling air effect hence not require any mechanical cooling while maintaining the thermal comfort of the spaces. The roof window, wall, floor, and internal wall component all affect the heat conductivity into space. The U value of the materials made up of the component affect the thermal comfort of the spaces. finding the suitable materials hence important. The shading device needs to be effective and oriented in the right direction to enable effective shading to occur.
Studio Integration
The VIC is designed in NORTH-SOUTH orientation and the wind direction is from the NORTH. In Kampung Pulai, it is really stuffy and hot, it is a strategy to let the building itself lays on the axis where the wind will pass through to promote air ventilation.
The building is designed as opened plan configuration, which means the wind is allowed to pass through every space without obstacle, and so the building is constantly cooled down.
