In this module, we are introduced to services that are commonly provided in buildings, primarily cold and hot water supply, sewerage treatment, drainage and storm water management, electrical supply, fire protection systems, mechanical ventilation, air-conditioning systems and mechanical transportation systems. We were also introduced to the basic requirements in planning, coordination and installation of these services related to the local Acts and By-Laws of Malaysia.
Assignment 1:
Case Study of Building Services in Public Buildings
The first assignment is a group assignment which requires us to pick a multi-storey building strictly involving public use. The building we chose was Menara OBYU. This group project comes with individual components where each group has to conduct a study on the systems namely:
i. Mechanical ventilation system
ii. Air-conditioning system
iii. Active fire protection system
iv. Passive fire protection system
v. Mechanical transportation system

In a group of 6, we had to collect the required data and cooperatively prepare a comprehensive report with reference to UBBL 1984 and graded based on the specified criteria. In this assignment, the students will explore the various types of building services installed and discover how they effectively operate. The students will also learn the basic planning principles of building services in actual situations.
Assignment 2:
Application of Building Services
Assignment 2 is a two-part assignment, one being individual, one being group where we work with a partner. For the individual assignment, under the guidance of our tutor Mr Zafar, we had to plan the application of systems for the building taken from the final project of studio design IV. Among the systems required are cold and hot water supply, sewerage & sanitary system, drainage and stormwater management system, and electrical supply system.

For the group assignment, I had to work with my partner Rebecca Lee Jia Yee to prepare a catalogue to showcase the products we use in our building services.
