In a group of 7, we have chosen THE NEW PAM CENTRE IN BANGSA as our building. In this project, we were given the task to identify 4 different building materials, then by listing out their properties and describe the feelings or texture of the material in the space we choose.
We chose THE NEW PAM CENTRE because of its strategy location and enlighten design concept. Besides, it is also the new landmark in Bangsar, which is the goal and dream for all the architects to work inside. THE NEW PAM CENTRE sits in a challenging setting, along a narrow sloping street with an existing four-storey structure limiting the possibility for green space at the ground level. With these constraints, Hasan designed the building from the inside out, creating strokes of spaces inspired by two key urban design patterns and elements: the space between buildings and connectivity. The materials used are mainly raw and unfinished to avoid gimmicky trends that rarely age well. Instead the interior is a timeless, albeit industrial, construction of exposed brick walls, flat concrete slabs and hidden steel columns.
This type of architectural design contains 4 main elements
-
The Space Between - This void merges necessity, functionality, and aesthetic beauty into a remarkable facade.
-
The Stairs - The vertical staircases create excellent ventilation from one floor to throughout the structure.
-
The Plane - Also known as the colour scheme, neighbouring bulky design with eye-straining blocks shields
-
The Screen - A breathable skin that helps to protect the building from the sunlight from the west
